A Winter Night in Melbourne ~ Night Photography Excursion

Learn Digital Photography Part 4 – Night Excursion to Melbourne Sunday 21st August 2016.

Check out the night by watching this video, and subscribe to my tube tube channel if you like..

We are quite an adventurous bunch. Yes the weather in Melbourne can change every five minutes, as we already had this date booked for our outing.

Rain, Rain brrr cold, but we did it anyway.. we travelled to Melbourne for a shoot, all the way from The Basin Community House.

I have always wanted to get out in the rain and shoot, usually it is a deterrent, but in this case, well the rain really played a role in the spectacular photos we got!

Rain, Hail or Shine!!

First thing is first … coffee.

We were all set now for our adventure!

I have always wanted to do a night shoot in Melbourne, so I am so impressed with my results!

Melbourne, we love you!

So the 8 of us all dispersed as we found so many interesting photos to take. We made our way from Southgate, past Crown Casio continued on to the Melbourne Convention Centre  until me landed at the Webb Bridge, Docklands.

Spectacular! The Rain really set things off, the reflections.. well absolutely beautiful.

My passion for photography and teaching will never diminish… nights like this is a true pleasure!!

Thank you all who came out on Sunday night, a wintery one at that!

It was worth it for the results.

Thank you for viewing

Sixteen

I would like to introduce you here is Iesha C — my Student // Assistant // Model

Iesha - Kallista

Interesting story, I first met Iesha four years ago, when she was twelve. I happen to be friends with her Dad. Recently, Iesha participated in one of my Digital Photography Basics workshops at Kallista Community House. Iesha is very interested in photography, and modelling. I was delighted to reunite with her 4 years later, as now she is sixteen and 6 ft tall!!

This is the beginning of something huge – as I brought her in the studio to model for our portrait class. Pretty awesome for all involved as we concentrated on lighting techniques, Rembrandt Lighting in particular.  Totally up the her alley as her interest in modelling, photography and the arts also played a role in the outcome of the shoot. I was so impressed with the results, and so was Iesha!

It is wonderful for me to be here so many years later as I remember when I was sixteen, I picked up a camera for the first time. Now, I am 34  and now a mentor to this young woman. BLESS !!

We share so many common interests and I feel very blessed to have shown her the light — in many more ways than one.

Here are some of the photos taken during a workshop, at Grants Reserve, Kallista.

Iesha had never partook in a photo shoot before, so here goes,  with my direction and guidance, we came up with some incredible shots on the fly.

Learn Digital Photography Part 2 – Still Life – with Bron Flutterby

bron fluterby

How to make objects look interesting..!

This week I had x 3 Digital Photography Part 2 classes where the topic for the week was – Still Life.

I can tell you, each class was very different as I also asked the participants to research what ‘Still Life’ is,  and to also bring along some objects to photograph.

Well,  for this class I had spent a long time in the mental preparation side of things. Thinking about how to deliver this topic to my class; as this topic is quite complex, and this class is just a ‘taster’ … But I need enough fuel, and enough excitement to get me there. – Oh yes I have plenty of excitement, so the fuel.. as my brain ticks on over.

Hymmm.. what objects? I had already decided on capsicums. . and the rest I came across on my mission  adventures to find still life props.

Here they are, in the light box!

still life capsicums

Impressed with results.. YES.

So many factors to consider, but I kept reminding myself… keep it simple Bron!

Then, a the mission- not only to write the class content- which includes a lot of preparation, preparing the powerpoint presentation (I have to make this spectacular) , also the class handout and then practical activity,  coordinating the whole event!

I spent the past two Fridays visiting cheap shops to find props, backing paper, and my trip to bunnings was the most exciting as I acquired all of what I needed to make my own DIY Light Box- and the total cost $40!

So I did it. This is what I made

my light box 1958 800wm

I was so impressed with the fake roses – cost $5 ! BARGAIN!

I can say, all my hard work in preparation for this weeks set of class was worth it!

The home made light box was a HIT! I was surprised — the lamps only set me back $8 each..

look at what I made 800

Testing.. Testing .. yes, it all worked out! I put together the above all in one photo to show off my masterpiece.

Oh yes.. WINNING!

This prop probably my favorite I came across it at a cheap shop, and especially it was not a reflective surface.  BELIEVE.. I just love it.

bron flutterby

I was so excited just before my class turned up for the night I had to do a #selfie! I just love how appropriate ‘believe’ is.. what a symbol!

bron believe

They call it ‘REFRACTION’ — check out the trippy effect.

So simple – so effective!

I used striped wrapping paper for the background.

bron flutterby

well, these set of classes were a HIT! Well Done everybody, so fantastic too see you getting very creative as we put into practice your brand new skill set — even shooting on the big M mode! Yehhh.. I am so proud of you all, beyond words.

I am happy to also announce I will be running DIGITAL PHOTOGRAPHY BASICS PART 3 – in TERM 4 whoo hooo!

I have put together a gallery of images snapped over the 3 classes so you get a glimpse of what we were up to.

A huge thank you to The Basin Community House for facilitating and making this all possible.  Thank you for BELIEVING in me.

Until next time, signing off. — that is until my next post – I am in the process of keeping up with myself and then bringing it to publication, so stay tuned, and thanks for watching!

Black & White or Shades of Grey?
